Landscape architecture – how can concrete be used in the surrounding area?

We see them in parks, gardens or urban leisure areas, admiring the original shapes integrated into modern or traditional building designs. Concrete street furniture is a popular way to fill a space effectively and practically. How can you use their potential?

Concrete furniture and products for design of the surroundings

To get off to a good start, it is worth considering what we expect from the planned design, what character it should have, what purpose it should serve, and what functional areas it should include.

We have a whole range of interesting solutions at our disposal, which can take on various forms, sometimes classic, sometimes more abstract, while retaining specific, useful functions:

  1. Planters – tall and short, square, rectangular, triangular or hexagonal. Depending on your needs, you can choose small formats (e.g. 50x50x50 cm) or impressive dimensions, e.g. 220x220x100 cm. They are often used not only to complement greenery in gardens and parks, but also to visually accentuate building entrances or to comfortably integrate vegetation into the development of urban squares and residential pavements.
  2. Benches and seats – concrete benches and seats are also perfect for the places mentioned above. There is also a huge selection of these products – from classic designs using concrete and wood, through interesting references to oval, round or trapezoidal shapes, to original motifs inspired by the appearance of natural boulders or starfish.
  3. The concrete tables are characterised by high durability and resistance to external conditions, and at the same time their weight favours stable placement in a designated place. This is especially important in public places, where not only the wind, but also overzealous users can try to change the current arrangement.
  4. Entry stops, stair treads, slabs – a product range directly related to paving. Finished in line with other elements of landscape architecture, they introduce practical and effective development of passageways into the space.

Harmony on the property

To maintain the visual coherence of the entire environment, you can also use a series of products with different purposes but similar shapes. For example, the popular Cubo seats and planters are based on a square motif, the Lungo seats, tables and planters offer an elongated, rectangular silhouette, and the Heksagon tables and planters exploit the potential of hexagons to create elaborate compositions reminiscent of the characteristic honeycomb look. It is also worth remembering that, in many cases, it is possible to order elements according to an individual design.

Landscape architecture for small and large spaces

Landscape architecture is suitable for both extensive projects involving the development of public spaces and intimate areas in home gardens. Planters, seating and tables can be placed next to each other along promenades or as interesting compositions in squares, but they are also perfect as individual accents in smaller plots, where, despite the limited space, it is advisable to provide a place to rest or add vegetation in an appropriate setting.

Concrete landscape architecture – what you need to know

The growing popularity of concrete landscape architecture elements is due to the fact that they perfectly combine an attractive appearance and comfort of use with stability and high resistance to changing external conditions. However, when deciding to introduce them into the environment, it is a good idea to check the requirements related to transport, installation and operation.

So let us verify:

  1. how unloading and assembly work (e.g. do they have holes for hooks or transport straps)
  2. whether the ground on which we intend to place them is even, properly paved and suitable for heavy loads
  3. whether additional impregnation is recommended whether they have already been secured at the production stage
  4. what preparations we can and cannot use for later maintenance
  5. whether we should use additional filling in planters to secure them against the effects of ground frost in winter
  6. what recommendations there are for protecting additional accessories such as wooden boards
