Betard Sparta Wrocław on the Team Polish Championship podium for the second time
This is the second consecutive podium for Betard Sparta Wrocław, which, as in 2021 and 2023, faced Motor Lublin in the PGE Ekstraliga final. The competition for gold was not made any easier for the Sparta team by the injuries that plagued Dariusz Śledz's men practically all season long. And although the final victory went to the Lublin team, the Sparta riders showed an unbreakable team spirit, fighting for every inch of the track in every heat.
Full Olympic Stadium, meaning the highest attendance in Ekstraliga
Reaching the final is not only thanks to the players, the coach and everyone in the machine park, but also to the fans. Betard Sparta Wrocław was undoubtedly supported by the full stands at the Olympic Stadium. Since the 2022 season, when the PGE Ekstraliga started publishing attendance statistics, Wrocław has consistently remained at the top in terms of the total and average number of spectators at home games.
Farewell to Tai Woffinden
The cynics might say that it is not the number of fans that counts, but the quality of their support. We could rest assured of that in the 2024 campaign, and the best example of this was the first final match at the Olympic Stadium. In addition to the loud cheering during the 15 heats, the fans of Sparta bid farewell to their legend with a fitting tribute: ‘Thank you, you will be Spartan forever’. For Tai Woffinden, it was the last season in the yellow and red colours. The Briton had represented Betard Sparta Wrocław continuously since 2012.
Individual achievements of seniors.
Another legend of the Wrocław team and its captain, Maciej Janowski, added his third title of Individual Polish Champion to his collection. Before the competition in Lublin, it was said that ‘Magic’ only had a mathematical chance of winning this year's IMP series. However, he showed that he can count very well, bringing in a full set of 18 points in all heats, and in the final heat alone he beat such riders as Bartosz Zmarzlik and Patryk Dudek. Artiom Łaguta turned out to be the best scoring rider in the entire PGE Ekstraliga, proving that he had no equal in the Polish league throughout the 2024 season.
Sparta's young talents
Jakub Krawczyk won the Polish Junior Individual Championship title, while Bartłomiej Kowalski distinguished himself as the best U24 player in the league. Both Betard Sparta Wrocław juniors have confirmed that the club has a solid base for the coming seasons. When we combine the achievements of these young Betard Sparta Wrocław players with the skills and experience of the rest of the seniors, we can see that the future of the Wrocław team is looking bright.
The 2024 season was full of sporting challenges, emotions and successes for Betard Sparta Wrocław. By winning silver in the Ekstraliga PGE and two individual Polish championship titles, the club proved that it is one of the top Polish speedway teams. The seniors showed not only class, but also the will to fight at every stage of the competition, and the youth confirmed their enormous potential, giving Wrocław fans reasons to be optimistic and whetting their sporting appetites for 2025.
