Reinforced concrete column

Prefabricated columns are bar-type, vertical load-bearing elements primarily designed to resist compressive forces. In industrial construction, columns and girders are part of the basic structural system of a hall structure. Depending on the project complexity, they can absorb loads from overhead cranes, intermediate floors and process equipment.

Production process of reinforced concrete column

Columns are manufactured in specially prepared moulds with various cross-sections. Rectangular cross-section elements are made in a lying position, while round elements are made in a standing position. In addition to the designed reinforcement, the column may have some necessary accessories inside it, such as: system wall connectors, mounting sleeves, and system column supports.

Production capabilities of Reinforced concrete column

We manufacture columns with a rectangular cross-section, including tapered designs. The side surfaces may additionally have brackets for supporting beams or girders. We are also able to produce columns with a circular cross-section, provided that there is a positive result of an individual analysis, taking into account technological capabilities. Where the columns are adjacent to walls, it is possible to install system connectors within the column to connect it to the wall. Depending on the static scheme and purpose, columns may be topped with a cap, reinforcing or threaded starter bars, or protruding main reinforcement. Our production capabilities allow us to make columns up to 30 m in length and weighing up to 100 tonnes.

Connections of columns with pad footings can be made in several variants: a column with a lower section with ‘notches’ is embedded in a socket footing; a column with embedded corrugated pipes is connected to a footing with starting bars (anchored in the said elements with a casting mass); a column connected to a footing with a system bolted joint. The dimensions of the elements are adapted to technological and transport requirements. The columns can be designed as multi-level elements, which reduces construction costs due to less joints and mounting elements.

Transport of Reinforced concrete column

Columns are transported in a horizontal (lying) position. In the case of long columns, it may be necessary to use specialist equipment, trailers with adjustable length, the so-called stretch trailers. Columns up to 14 m and weighing up to 24 tonnes can be transported in open trailers or under a tarpaulin.

Installation of Reinforced concrete column

The installation of precast columns is usually carried out using starting bars fixed in the footing or a systematic bolted joint. When connecting with starting bars, corrugated pipes are embedded in the column and then placed on the bars and filled with high-strength mortar. In the case of a system connection, the base of the column is poured into the precast element, which is then placed on anchor bolts sunk into the foundation. Finally, grout is made to fill the space between the base of the column and the foundation surface
